September 2, 2016 - Mammoth National Park, Kentucky Mammoth National Park. So named not because they found Mammoth bones here but because a New York reporter couldn’t remember the cave’s real name (Flatt’s Cave) so called it the mammoth cave – HUGE cave – and it stuck. At first glance the part of the cave we toured – the historical cave – doesn’t have the glitz and glamour of the other cave we tour. No decorations because the water moved too fast. But, as we walked though and things opened up, we realized we were being treated to an immense space underground. Something so glorious that it takes you breath away. I would love to hear the concerts that are performed here. They must be amazin The final pathway was up a spiral staircase that afforded wonderful views of the tube in which we were climbing. A huge hole carved by rushing waters thousands of years ago. And so we bid adieu to the National Parks until next time. Oh, and I am now the proud possessor of my own lifetime gezette pass – free entry to any National Park. So many more to see.
