Day 14 - May 29, 2019As the skies cleared and the sun came out, the New Hampshire I love began to shine once more. There is so much green her and the waters are rushing. Streams, ponds, rivers…how I’ve missed the sight of water. The day started again at the King Arthur Café- what else? We then drove and explored several of the surrounding areas finding tiny towns that reminded us of Kent and Sharron in Connecticut. Each had a store, a post office and some sort of market The highlight of Mark’s day was finding two trailheads for the AT (Appalachian Trail.). And….the dreaded black flies. He and Bono were raring to take a hike but the discovery came too late in the day for this trip. Another night at Storrs Pond RA with the Pond right out our side window.

Days 9-13A long drive is all the more sweet when you get to see friends. We abandoned the weather in the Midwest and stopped at Bucknell a week early and into the arms of our college friends in their beautiful new retirement home. A visit with family in Lancaster and Newtown completed our tour of Pennsylvania for this leg of the journey. We even got to celebrate the 4-40 birthday of a dear friend and his son in North Jersey. We’re sooooo lucky. Last evening we drove north past old stomping grounds in Connecticut with such weird memories. The congestion and the weather helped us remember why we wanted to leave. Continuing north, we spent the night at a campground near Brattleboro, VT. This morning found us in another familiar place - King Arthur Café in Norwich, VT. Their breads and scones are a little bit of heaven on earth. With continued rains we drove around the area checking things out. Oops…the windshield sprang a leak. Mark called Reno guy who found us a local glass place - Granite State Glass - who took pity on us and did a repair job. We’re spending the night at a Storrs Pond Recreational Area Campground. We knew we’d get the midweek discount but little did we know that we’d also get a discount because the water is off. We spent the savings on an innovative dinner in town at Base Camp Café- Nepali Cuisine. LOTS of cumin but nice and dry inside the restaurant.
Day 8 - May 23, 2019Ka-boom! We were awakened during the night as the thunderstorms passed through. With few window coverings (no people to hide from) the lightening display was glorious. Awakened again around 6:00 to the sound of a chain saw. Looking out we saw trees and branches everywhere! Luckily, Baby Beluga kept us dry and avoided fallen limbs. The weather of the west is telling us to go east and so we pack up and drive to Lewisburg and into the home of dear college friends who welcome us with smiles and hugs. A little bit of home-away-from -home
